Colleges and students are being told that because Ruth’s Chris Steak House and McDonald’s both have chicken, beef, and potatoes on the menu they provide the same nutritious meal. The justifications given for each new test asks colleges and the public to accept that as long as the product is called the SAT and has a passing resemblance to the last version, it’s a good indicator of students’ “college readiness.” The test publisher has asked the public to accept the new test, despite radical revisions, as both better than and comparable to the old test. By the College Board’s logic and soon-to-be-created research, a two-hour test and a three-hour test are “covering the same knowledge and skills,” a computer test and paper test demonstrate performance comparably, and a 750-word reading passage with ten questions and ten 75-word reading passages with one question are equivalent. Masterman Secondary School from 5th to 12th grade would all take different versions of the SAT. It’s entirely possible that three siblings who grew up together in Philadelphia and attended Julia R. Once the newest SAT debuts, high school seniors graduating in the classes of 2017, 2021, and 2025 will have all taken completely different versions of the exam. At what point should the company rename the test to reflect that the connection to the test of the past is one of nostalgia, bubbles, and score scale more so than one of content, knowledge, and skills measured? Since then the content, format, timing, name, writers, and scoring has changed many times. The first test to bear those initials was introduced in 1926 it tested arithmetic, pattern recognition, vocabulary (definitions, classification, analogies, antonyms), paragraph-based reading and logic and had free-answer as well as multiple choice questions.
